We know that starting a new job, no matter how much experience you have, can be nerve-wracking. We’ve all been there! This page outlines our onboarding process, which is designed to help you kick off your first 12 weeks at Float with all of the information and context you’ll need to thrive in your new role. We’ve included the essentials here, but your signed contract and the Float Handbook is the source of truth when it comes to your role, pay, benefits, and policies.

We have four key goals during this onboarding process:

  1. Help you get clear on your role and early deliverables—so you can feel confident in where to focus your time and effort.
  2. Support your understanding of how we work at Float—so you can navigate systems, processes, and culture with ease.
  3. Begin building meaningful relationships—because working remotely doesn’t mean being isolated.
  4. Empower your to share your voice and perspective—we hired you for a reason.

🤝With every new team member, we are learning and refining our onboarding process. If you have any feedback about your experience or questions along the way, reach out to Julia or Ashley (our Talent Team) directly. Additionally, Amber (Team Experience Manager) will do a formal feedback request at the end of your onboarding period to learn what worked well and opportunities for improvement.

What to Expect

Our Onboarding Prep

We do a lot of preparation ahead of your first day so that you can be set up for success on your first day. To do this, an internal onboarding team that consists of the Hiring Manager, Your Onboarding Buddy, Talent, Leadership, and department team members close to the role work together to provide you with the information and access you need to do your job. On your first day, your access will be ready and you will have contacts for the people to reach out to if you have any issues.

Welcome Page

Your manager will email you all of the information you need before your first day.

Perhaps the most important will be the link to your Welcome Page and your Task List in Bob, which includes a detailed checklist of all things Onboarding. Your Welcome Page will be your go-to personalized guide, and will break down everything you should focus on at each stage of your onboarding journey.

Our goal with the Welcome Page and your Task List is to break down “Onboarding”, i.e. a 12 week process with a lot to learn, into bite-sized pieces with lots of helpful context and information.

Onboarding Team

Behind the scenes, we have a Slack channel and team dedicated to your onboarding success. Your Onboarding Team is made up of team members from Talent, Ops, Directors, your manager, and your onboarding buddy. The onboarding team is there to set up access, schedule initial meetings with the new team member, and ensure that all necessary information is shared for your Onboarding Period at Float to be as smooth as possible.

Onboarding Meets

As part of the onboarding process, you will see meetings already scheduled in your calendar on your first day. Each meeting has a unique focus that helps to paint a larger picture of the why, how and who behind Float.

Here are some examples of who you’ll meet with, at what point in your onboarding period, and why. This can differ from role to role.
