Geekbot allows managers and direct reports to conduct private, asynchronous check-ins via Slack. These check-ins can be fully private (between only the two individuals) and scheduled on a recurring basis. Below is information on how the check-in are set up 👇
Geekbot/Slack Set up
1. Geekbot
A template for the check-in has been created in Geekbot. The questions in the template are:
- On a scale of 1 - 5, how do you feel at work since your last check-in;
1 - Awful, 2 - Indifferent, 3 - Fine, 4 - Pretty Good, 5 - Amazing!
- What went well this week? What's working? What was achieved?
- Any challenges you're facing? What's not going well? Are there any roadblocks, personal challenges, or areas you could used some help?
2. Private channels in Slack
Ops has created a private channel between you and each of your direct reports. Each private channel has been named “async-checkin-team member name”. Geekbot has been invited to the channel to broadcast the weekly async check-in questions there each Friday for your report(s) to answer.
- If you have more than 1 direct report, you can group those private channels to reduce slack noise. Once those channels are grouped, you can choose a day to review your reports’ responses.
- How to group private channels:
- Make sure you are on the Home tab in Slack
- Select Channels
- Select Create
- Select Create Section
- Name section Weekly Async Check-Ins
- Click on each private channel and drag and drop into the newly created section
